Karen Pachuta is being sworn in on Monday, January 4th as the newest member of the Doraville City Council.
She replaces Bob Spangler who she beat in the December runoff.
In addition, Donna Pittman will get sworn in, starting her second full term after beating two candidates, John Noonan and Stuart Anderson. Brian Bates will also get sworn in starting his first full term after beating Tom Hart.
Should be interesting to see how the new dynamics play-out. 4 women, 3 men (including the mayor who can only vote in case of a tie).

So, how did it go? Anyone attend? How did freshman Pachuta do? How did the rest of the council fare? Any shenanigans?
ReplyDeleteKaren did well and seemed confident and thoughtful with her coments. She also was not afraid to state her opinion and hold her ground. All to have been expected from our most educated council member. Attempted shenanigans were deferred and gracefully deflected.
ReplyDeleteStill only one item of new business was tackeled. This needs improvement and therfore more preparation from council, staff and department heads is needed.
See you in the neighborhoods!
Chris
The council meeting was a breath of fresh air compared to what our past meetings were. Its so nice to have educated people that know how to talk in public up there now. Way to go Karen!
ReplyDeleteHow could the meeting be so different only one new person was added to the council and the city still has the same Mayor who is very ineffective at running a meeting? The new breath of fresh air is also the one who sued the city and cost the city a tremendous amount in legal fees. How much does she really care about the city and the citizens and take a look at English Oak Park to see an example of what she thinks the City should look like.
ReplyDeleteFormer Councilmember Bob Spangler seemed to me to be the best one to state his opinion and hold his ground firmly no matter the opposition. Who was against Karen on her first meeting and why would she be afraid to speak her mind? What shenanigans were attempted? Does the city need more micromanagement? Is it because the city does not have a strong Mayor or Pro tem Mayor?
ReplyDeleteShe didn't cost the city so much in legal fees, the council voted to keep paying the lawyers instead of settling. The figure that has been tossed around for legal fees is obscene, considering that the suit was settled for $750, and allegedly could have been settled earlier for less than that.
ReplyDeletehow can you say it didn't cost the city so much in legal fees?? Do an ORR and see just how much was paid out in atty fees. Begin with Rick Powell, GIRMA attys., and Murray Weed. It was close to $12,000 and to me and I'm sure others consider that a lot of money. Karen wanted $1000.00 but received $750.00. If she was interested in helping the city why the lawsuit in the first place? or is this your idea of "helping"?
